Fredericksburg Points of Interest

Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park - The Battlefield Visitor Center is located along the historic Sunken Road portion of the battlefield. Two walking trails will allow you to walk over the same ground that was so hotly contested on December 13, 1862. General Robert E. Lee was victorious over General Ambrose E. Burnside. However, nearly 18,000 men were wounded or killed in this battle that had no tactical significance.

Historic Kenmore - Historic Kenmore is located in the heart of Historic Fredericksburg, Virginia. Built in the 1770's, this house was part of a plantation of almost 1,300 acres owned by George Washington's sister Betty and her husband, Fielding Lewis. His plantation had fields of tobacco, wheat, and corn, as well as a store and a shipyard on the Rappahannock River. He sacrificed his fortune to build and operate an arms manufactory for the American Revolution. Col. Lewis died in mid-December 1781, only weeks after Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington in October of that year.
